HILO GEARING UP FOR THE OUTRIGGER STATE CHAMPIONSHIPS

There is a lot of activity around Hilo Bay today. Outrigger teams from around the State have been converging on Hilo for the huge State championships tomorrow. This is the first time in seven years that Hilo has hosted the Outrigger State Championships and over 1000 people are expected to be in town to participate and view the event.

GREAT FOOD IN HILO

We had a small party and decided to serve only food from Hilo. A new bakery in town, e Claire's had huge cakes. This was a 3 layer, 3 flavor cake. A bit too sweet for us, but it sure looked gorgeous.

Big Island pizza is a local run pizza shop - they use only fresh ingredients and the pizza is outstanding.

It didn't last long.
RED SUNSETS OVER HILO

We have been having some beautiful sunsets with redish clouds over Hilo.
SWIMMING AT RICHARDSON BEACH

Though it was an overcast day in Hilo, we decided to go swimming at Richardson Beach. We were surprised at how far away the water was from where it normally was. There were huge tide pools in front of the life guard stand.

We noticed a similar effect, the ocean set back very far, last week on the Kona side of the island.

The water was cold and ocean rough, but it was fun to be at the beach.

GORGEOUS HILO WEATHER

The weather has been beautiful the past couple of weeks in Hilo. We are getting warm, sunny days with rain in the evening. Rainbow Falls has water once again.

The rain has provided some nice rainbows.

And we are never worried about going hungry. The papayas are growing all over the place.
