The Hawaii Conservation Alliance (HCA) is hosting its 23rd Annual Hawaii Conservation Conference Community Day on Wednesday, August 5, 2015 from 8:00am to 8:00pm at the University of Hawaiʻi at Hilo. The event is free to the public. The Community Day will feature live music from Paula Fuga and wise words from Nainoa Thompson, President of the Polynesian Voyaging Society, as well as local vendors promoting sustainability and malama ʻāina. Local chefs Mark “Gooch” Noguchi and Top Chef finalist Sheldon Simeon along with their chef buddies will prepare amazing food not to be missed. This year’s conference will celebrate Hanohano Hawaiʻi Kuauli: Celebrating Collaboration and Wisdom Across Hawaiʻi's Ecosystems and will explore the relationship between the people and resources of Hawaii. The free Community Day is part of the 23rd Annual Hawaii Conservation Conference from Monday, August 3rd to Thursday, August 6th.

63rd Annual Hilo Orchid Society Show/Sale: ORCHIDS AVANT-GARDE. August 7, 8 and 9, 2015 at Afook-Chinen Civic Auditorium. Ledward Ka`apana & Mike Ka`awa perform at the Palace Theater in Hilo, on Friday, September 18, from 7 PM to 9 PM. Tickets are available at the Palace Theater at 808-934-7010. This event is a benefit for the Big Island Slack Key Guitar Festival to be held on Sept. 20th, and is being sponsored by the East Hawaii Cultural Council. For more information call 808-315-2374

Big Island Slack Key Guitar festival is held Sept 20 at the Afook-Chinen Civic Auditorium in Hilo -12 performances from noon to 6 PM, featuring some of the finest slack key guitar artists including Ledward Ka`apana, Jeff Peterson, Cyril Pahinui, Keoki Kahumoku, Darlene Ahuna, Ken Emerson, and The Kalapana Awa Band. Tickets are $10, or $8 with a canned goods donation. There will be t-shirts for sale, craft and food booths. Sponsored by East Hawaii Cultural Council. For more information call 808-315-2374

Hilo Farmer's Market is open every day 7AM-4PM downtown and has numerous special events and performances. Every Wednesday and Saturday 6AM-4PM over 200 local farmers and craftsman fill the market. Check their website for the Second-hand Sundays and Market Music schedules.

A Hilo Running group meets every Wednesday at 5:00pm and every Saturday at 6:30. They start and end the run from the Big Island Running Company on Hilo Bayfront at 308 Kamehameha Ave, Suite 105 - two doors down from Cafe Pesto. Runners and walkers of all levels are welcome.

Art Classes at One Gallery 186 Kamehameha Ave. (on the bay front)
"Art With Wine" evening class held the third Friday of each month from 6:00pm to 8:00pm.  The first class is July 17th.

Farmer's Market 1st Friday of every month at EHCC

Create your own TV shows with Nā Leo ʻO Hawaiʻi Video Production Training. Nā Leo ʻO Hawaiʻi, will help you put together your television show and broadcast it on cable channel 53 or 54. Nā Leo ʻO Hawaiʻi offers classes in basic video production, camera operation, editing, lighting and studio production. A minimal charge applies for the training, but once you’re a certified producer at Nā Leo O Hawaiʻi, use of the television equipment and facilities are FREE!
The first class, Orientation (normally 2 hours), is held on the first Saturday of each month at 9 a.m. in Hilo and the first Wednesday at 5:30 p.m. in Kona. Additional classes including Video Production Basics, Camera Basics, Non-Linear Editing I and Non-Linear Editing II are scheduled at the Orientation class by consensus of the class. They have Final Cut Pro on Macs and Adobe Premiere on Windows machines.
