Shank's Mare on October 4, 2017, 7:30pm – 9:00pm at the Performing Arts Center The story of two wandering travelers whose paths intersect in time and space. Using traditional Kuruma Ningyo puppetry, video projection and live music, the piece explores themes of life and death and how tradition is passed on.

The Palace Theater and The Hilo Community Chorus are Proud to Present the 16th Annual Fall Musical SHOUT! THE MOD MUSICAL October 13, 14, 20, 21, 27 & 28 at 7PM October 22 & 29 at 2:30PM Doors will open 1 hour prior to each performance.

The Japanese Chamber of Commerce 19th Annual Taste of Hilo will be on Sunday, October 22, 2017, from 1:00 pm to 3:00 pm, at Sangha Hall in Hilo.  Presale tickets are on sale for $55.00.  They may be purchased by calling the Chamber’s office at 808-934-0177, or by email at jccih@jccih.org.  Tickets may also be purchased at the door for $70.00 if the event has not been sold out.The Taste of Hilo annually features the culinary skills of more than 35 chefs, restaurants, and patisseries, who provide their talents, ingredients and staff to make this annual event a success.  Come and discover what your favorite restaurants will be featuring at this year’s Taste of Hilo.  A portion of event proceeds goes to support the Hawaii Community College. 

Okareka Dance Company presents: Mana Wahine Tuesday, October 24, 2017, 7:30pm – 9:00pm at the UH Perfroming Arts Center - Mana Wahine is an all-female work that utilizes dance, theatre and film to honor the essence of what it is to be a woman.

Nutrition Seminar on October 14th from 4 to 6pm at the East Hawaii Cultural Center (141 Kalakaua St.) in the 2nd floor kitchen and Lanai area. The seminar, will explore a 3 step process to initiate and sustain healthier eating habits. It will identify reasons for making changes, easy ways to incorporate healthier options into daily life and create a plan. ON-GOING EVENTS

Hilo Farmer's Market is open every day 7AM-4PM downtown and has numerous special events and performances. Every Wednesday and Saturday 6AM-4PM over 200 local farmers and craftsman fill the market. Check their website for the Second-hand Sundays and Market Music schedules.

Hilo Woman's Club is a community service organization committed to assisting and educating its members in the areas of civic and personal interest. The club has regular meetings and special events.

Wainaku Wednesday!  Relax with friends after work on the lanai while enjoying the panoramic view of Hilo Bay every Wednesday 5 p.m. – 8 p.m. Free admission, live music, cocktails & pupus available for purchase. A Hilo Running group meets every Wednesday at 5:00pm and every Saturday at 6:30. They start and end the run from the Big Island Running Company on Hilo Bayfront at 308 Kamehameha Ave, Suite 105 - two doors down from Cafe Pesto. Runners and walkers of all levels are welcome. Aikido for Adults & Teens Beginners learn aikido for health and fitness: stretch, strengthen, and learn self-defense skills in a friendly atmosphere. Hilo Ocean Adventures (1717 Kamehameha Ave across from Ken’s House of Pancakes 808-934-8344) recently started Dive Club - free to join and connecting people in the community looking for dive buddies, beach and ocean clean up events.  Pool rental slots are available for their indoor heated pool.  Time slots are 30 min each in packages of 4, 8, and 12. Contact them for information on package prices and their Aqua Fitness Classes.

Create your own TV shows with Nā Leo ʻO Hawaiʻi Video Production Training. Nā Leo ʻO Hawaiʻi, will help you put together your television show and broadcast it on cable channel 53 or 54. Nā Leo ʻO Hawaiʻi offers classes in basic video production, camera operation, editing, lighting and studio production. A minimal charge applies for the training, but once you’re a certified producer at Nā Leo O Hawaiʻi, use of the television equipment and facilities are FREE!
The first class, Orientation (normally 2 hours), is held on the first Wednesday of every month at 5:30 p.m. in Hilo and Kona. Additional classes including Video Production Basics, Camera Basics, Non-Linear Editing I and Non-Linear Editing II are scheduled at the Orientation class by consensus of the class. They have Final Cut Pro on Macs and Adobe Premiere on Windows machines.
